Fall Portraits - Liane (part 2)

Happy Wednesday! (I say that with a fake smile--I'm not a big Wednesday fan, though today was pretty good.) Here I am with the rest of Liane's photos. If you missed it, the first set is here.

Apparently I didn't have anything to say in captions today. It seemed like it might be repetitive. :) Thanks to Liane for being such an awesome model (when it's cold and I'm asking her to sit on the wet ground!), and thanks to anyone looking through this post! Having people to share my photos with makes it worth doing.

Guess what? My new camera arrived yesterday! Most of you already know that. I've already taken several photos that I hope to show you in the next few days. I'm loving it so far! Stay tuned, hot air ballooned.

Fall Portraits - Liane (part 1)

Remember Liane? I decided a fall session was in order, so she gathered up her hats and scarves and we went to Deepwood Estate. It was really fun and I'm excited about several of these pictures. I think I'm going to split them into two posts, though, to keep it less overwhelming.

The Deepwood House has this little garden/sun room that I've only seen through the locked doors in the past. But it happened to be open, so I somewhat randomly had Liane pose for some photos and I think they ended up being my favorites.

There's just something about it.

Fun fact: this sweater is actually purple, but the camera was making it more blue (at least according to my monitor) and I am okay with that too.

I love the "Midnight in Paris" Photoshop action I found awhile back.

More to come in the next couple of days! Thanks for looking.

11

Welcome, November! I've never been a huge fan, but today I was thinking back on past Novembers and I realized I've done some fun stuff this time of year. Trips, gatherings, photography, enjoying the vibrant colors, and other fall-themed activities. I guess November's not so bad after all!

I kicked off the month with a fall portrait shoot with Liane that I had been super-duper looking forward to for weeks. I was able to borrow the work camera (the session was planned before mine broke, so I'm thankful for the available sub), and the weather was pretty decent today. I can't wait to show you more of the photos.

On my way home I stopped at a park downtown and took a few pictures like this one.

Have you made Thanksgiving plans yet? What else is going on for you?

Later, leafigators!

Fall is coming

Hi! Yesterday, I was feeling suddenly ready to accept that fall is almost here, so I was inspired to bring the camera on a quick walk at work. Plus, that's actually part of my job! Here are a few things I saw.

Not particularly fally, but in Oregon it kind of is because we tend to get a burst of green after the dry summer. We had some heavy rain last week and it's pumped up the color a bit.

Just a goofy photo. There are lots of Steller's jays out lately. At one point I could hear them screeching in the trees and it was pretty loud. Maybe it was only three, but it sounded like a hundred.

We actually had a heat wave this past week, so it was in the 90s for a couple of days. Then Friday it just sort of became fall, in both the weather and my mind. I do love fall, but I can't handle it too soon because I love summer so much too. Once I'm ready, though, it can give me the same boost that spring often does: the feeling of new beginnings and that anything is possible in the next few months, and the motivation to make some plans.

I think all the green and orange is also a reminder to Ducks and Beavers fans that they can live together in harmony. ;) And that's probably the only time you'll see a sports reference in my blog. I honestly don't follow it at all, but I have coworkers who do. I have a hard enough time remembering which schools have which mascots.

Happy Fall Eve. Do you have any exciting plans?

Fallpaper Wednesday

It's been awhile, but I thought I'd post a few fallish wallpapers! Enjoy.

October

Bonus Saturday post!

Happy October to you and you and you! This is my favorite month, so I had to go back and grab some of my photos from Octobers past. Most of these have not been in my blog before.

First, I must wish Nicole Kelly a very happy birthday. That's my Cabbage Patch Kid! For some reason I always remember her birthday is October 1st, and now she should be turning about 27. Yes, I adopted her when I was at the tender age of 8, on Christmas Day. She came to me as Henreika Kelly, but obviously I had to change that name. What were her biological parents thinking? I have no photos, but this is what she looked like. Now she's living in California, singing in a band somewhere. It's hard to keep up with that girl.

Some of the great things about October: colored leaves, beautiful sunsets and sunrises, pumpkin deliciousness, MY BIRTHDAY, apple-y things, the Balloon Fiesta in NM, some of the weather, harvesty things, the fact that it's not yet the full-blown holiday season, and memories (and hopes!) of changes and happy events that took place in October. For instance:

  • I interviewed for my current job on October 17th in 2005. That day I was offered the job and it meant I'd be moving to Oregon!
  • I moved into a previous apartment with my first roommate (not counting one in a dorm) in October of 2007. (Hi, Holly!)
  • I moved into my current place (which I love!) on October 10th two years ago.
  • I met one of my very good friends on October 23rd of 2007.
  • The first time I ever met someone I had originally met online was October 30th many, many, many moons ago.

What changes does October have for me this year? I'm curious. (Hopefully it'll be a lot better than last October.)

Tell me some happy Octobery things!

Is your birthday this month?

Your anniversary?

Have a nice day!

Early Fall

Technically it's not fall yet, but around here it seems to start at the beginning of September (or even earlier). I needed to get out today, so I walked around the grounds by my place looking for some fall evidence to photograph.

It wasn't necessarily the smartest idea. There were lots of [garden] spider webs that I couldn't always see, but felt on my face and arms everywhere I walked. One was over the path, and I was so careful to step under it on my way through, but totally forgot about it and ruined it on my way back. I said sorry, but the spider probably gave me the finger.

There also seemed to be a lot of creatures roaming. I almost stepped on a salamander (I guess?)*, and saw/heard lots of movement in the bushes, like animals were around. I know one was a squirrel, but I'm not so sure about the others. My guess is at least one was a mole, since I've seen one before in a similar environment (shady, damp forest).

Okay! Now that you have sat through my important side info, here are a few so-so photos.

Another nice color palette possibility.

Well, that's not very fallish.

Deadness! Yay fall!

Not high on the fall scale, but points for cuteness, don't you think?

Do you like how I end on a summery photo? Well, whatever. Just trust me that it's getting fallish. And there are some trees that are almost completely orange/etc. but none that I photographed. I hope to do some good fall photography outings in the next couple of months, though.

*I couldn't get a non-blurry shot; he was too fast.
